Have you ever wondered why children in China collect red envelopes bulging with money at Chinese New Year? Red is the colour of luck in China, signifying joy, prosperity and success and, during the New Year, can be seen in fiery, audacious shades everywhere you look. Red lanterns symbolising reunion and harmony are a popular welcome sign, red firecrackers make an auspicious (and ear-splitting) start to the New Year and a red front door means both luck and happiness.
